Overview
The Unicel C-9402 is a pleated polyester pool filter cartridge engineered for above-ground and small in-ground pool applications, providing 100 sq ft of effective filtration area via a high-pleat-count Reemay nonwoven polyester media pack. Dimensional specifications: 8.0-inch OD, 3.0-inch ID at the top opening with a closed bottom end cap, and 9.6875-inch overall length. End caps are ABS injection-molded for chemical resistance and dimensional stability under standard pool chemistry exposure; the closed-bottom, semi-enclosed-top configuration eliminates bypass at the manifold seat. Nominal filtration efficiency falls within the 15–25 micron range under standard test conditions. The element is rated for continuous service to 104°F and supports operating pressures consistent with residential cartridge filter systems (8–25 PSI working range).
Service interval recommendation: residential installations — replacement triggered at ΔP ≥ 8–10 PSI above clean-filter operating baseline, or on an annual calendar cycle, whichever occurs first. Intermediate maintenance: rinse every 4–6 weeks with fresh water at moderate pressure (avoid pressure washers, which damage pleat geometry); chemical soak with TSP solution or commercial enzyme cleaner every 3–6 months to remove embedded oils and organics that resist rinsing. For calcium scale, muriatic acid soak at 1:20 dilution is compatible (20-minute maximum exposure) followed by thorough rinse before reinstallation. Polyester media tolerates continuous chlorine exposure at ≤ 10 ppm FAC; ABS end cap construction is compatible with standard acid wash procedures and all common enzyme-based cartridge cleaners.
