Overview
The Unicel 5CH-203 is a pleated polyester spa cartridge filter element providing 20.0 sq ft of filtration area, engineered as a direct cartridge substitute for OEM bag-style filter configurations originally specified on LA Spas PTL35 housings. Media construction is Reemay nonwoven polyester with nominal 25-micron filtration efficiency, configured in a closed-bottom, open-top end cap geometry standard to the 5CH series commercial-spec spa platform. End caps are ABS injection-molded for elevated-temperature service, bonded to the pleat pack with UV- and chemical-stabilized urethane adhesive engineered for continuous immersion at spa operating chemistry. The element is rated for continuous service at temperatures up to 115°F and operating pressures within typical spa circulation ranges of 5–15 PSI, with intermittent excursions to 120°F permissible. The 5CH-203 functions as a bag-to-cartridge upgrade path, delivering higher effective surface area and simplified service relative to legacy bag media.
Service interval recommendation: rinse with fresh water at 2–4 week intervals depending on bather load and ozone/sanitizer regime; chemical soak in dilute TSP or commercial enzyme/degreaser cleaner every 4–6 weeks to remove accumulated body oils, surfactants, and cosmetic residues that resist hydraulic rinsing. Replacement is recommended at ΔP ≥ 5 PSI above clean-filter baseline, at visual evidence of pleat channeling or fabric degradation, or at 12-month maximum service life under daily-use spa applications. Chemical compatibility: polyester media and ABS end caps tolerate continuous service at ≤ 10 ppm free available chlorine or ≤ 30 ppm total bromine; muriatic acid soak at 1:20 dilution is compatible for calcium scale removal (20-minute maximum exposure, thorough freshwater rinse before reinstallation). Enzyme cleaners compatible without restriction. Standard Unicel 90-day manufacturer defect warranty applies through authorized distribution.
